Auto Sears 50mm
f/2 Reviews
Posted by Bengt Köhler Sandberg 2014-07-18 Made by Ricoh and are more or less a clone of the Rikoh Rikenon 50mm f/2. But this Sears lens are a little lighter in the info I found so it looks like it's not a 100% copy. The optical design info is what the Rikenon lens have and I assume that the Sears have the same. Bokeh All of the exterior is plastic but the mount and I guess most of the moving interior parts are metal. This gives little cheap feel to it but it's still well put together and is a quite solid build. So operating the lens feel still quite good and has no toy stamp on it. Conclusion Image quality is great and better than I first expected. Sharpness is good wide open and are quite well corrected for a flat focal plane so not much corner softness. But some aberration and vignetting are also there but nothing too much. Plus stop it down a step or two and you can get some very nice quality images. Also find the bokeh to mostly look very nice and it handels flare and backlight well. But sometimes you can get a bit of ghosting from backlight conditions and this is mostly wide open so a lens hood can be handy. It do have its plastic exterior which some might not like but this also makes the lens both lighter and cheaper. Still well built and I would not put a toy feel stamp on it. The focus distance is also a little shorter than many other 50mm lenses. But it is a little smaller than many other and those that share a similar size do usually have the same focus distance. This can be a great lens if you're looking for a good cheap, very light and small standard lens but don't mind a little plastic exterior. Thumbs up: Image quality Bokeh Flare and backlight in most conditions Platic but still well built Thumbs down: Platic Want to help
