Minolta SRT 100 and 101 Tips and Tricks Posted by Bengt Köhler Sandberg 2012-07-23 To calibrate the shutter on these cameras is not as difficult has you might think. First, turn the camera upside down and remove these two screws. You find two gears with a small pin that holds it tight. The one closest to the lens mount determines how fast the shutter will close. The other one is how fast it opens. I found it easier to start from scratch to get a good exposure at all speed. And you do that by pressing up the small gearlocks up the completely loosen the tension in the shutter. Now the shutter will barely open or close at all.
Start by screwing on the gear that makes the shutter open. Do this in small steps and you don't want the shutter to be to tight which can damage it. I set the shutter speed to the fastest and tighten 3 gear pins, took a picture to see of the shutter open all the way. If not I tighten 3 more pins and do so until the shutter open all the way but not more. Now for the closing. On this camera the mirror don't come back down of the shutter is closed all the way. So I did the 3 pin tightening on the other gear until the mirror closed on the fastest shutter speed. Go to a slower shutter speed and do the same until all speed close as they should. Now the odds are that the shutter open is to loose and this will result that faster shutter speeds will not work properly. If you open the back of the camera so you can see all the way through when you trigger the shutter. Hold it towards a light source like a lamp etc. Look at the fastest shutter speeds and if you can't see any light means that the shutter opens too slow. Take a extra look at the edges of the shutter so it looks like it's as much light at both sides. If not, tighten the open shutter gear 3 pins until it looks good. And then it's done. This however will not give you a 100% accurate shutter speeds but it can be way better if yours are way off. Usually the faster shutter speeds which will be more off. You do need shutter tester in order to adjust it accurate. Want
