Use a Polariod lens on a modern
camera Tips and Tricks
Posted by Bengt Köhler Sandberg 2013-04-09  Have for a long time been a fan of the old Polaroid camera and love the feel of these images. And these nice old cameras can usually be found extremely cheaply. But using the camera however is far from cheap and one pack with 8 images can cost around 20 euro. Which means 2.5 euro per image. So I instead got myself a Polaroid Colorpack 88 camera and smashed it apart to remove it's lens. Wanted to test using this on my Arax 6x6 medium format camera. But any SLR camera or one with liveview can be used. The build was very easy made and all I used was is a body front protective cap.  Made a hole in the protective cap and glued on my lens.  
Very easy and the lens can be mounted on the camera just like any other. This is a plastic lens that are manual scale focus which work very well for a build like this. You focus by turning the front lens element. And this can be turned about 3 turns before the hole front lens element come off. So the lens don't have to be in a perfect distance from the film and still can focus very close. If you however wants use this on a normal SLR or DSLR. Then you would probably need some more distance between the lens and the camera. A easy solution would be to use macro tubes to get a good distance. Have also done a similar build out of a lens that I took from a Polaroid 2000 camera. Have used this on my 4x5" large format camera which this actually covers to my surprise. But you don't have much movement and the sharpness don't cover much of the frame. Not 100% sure about focal length and aperture on the Colorpack 88 lens but it seem to be a more or less identical to the Polaroid 2000 cameras. This have a 116mm and a fixed f/9.4 aperture. Sample
